Classes Teach Theater Skills for Business Suits

Shakespeare Theatre CompanyWith the belief that theater skills are life skills, the Shakespeare Theatre Company in Washington, D.C., is offering a curriculum of courses called Acting for Business Professionals. One of STC's most popular master acting classes, Acting for Business Professionals strengthens the skills necessary to succeed in the professional world, including effective listening and communication, quick thinking and creative risk taking, and confident, persuasive public speaking.

Three classes are available for individuals, all under the instructor Vanessa Hope..

Acting for Business Professionals Intensive (18 and up), adapted from STC's popular multiweek master acting class, is a fast-paced, interactive three-hour session that guides participants in an exploration of non-verbal storytelling, vocal performance, and operative words as they apply to the workplace. This class is scheduled for Dec. 13 from 6:30–9:30 p.m. Tuition is $60.

Acting for Business Professionals—Extended Course offers a honing of presentation and negotiation skills from the boardroom to the lunchroom with clients and co-workers. In a fun, comfortable, interactive environment, learn how to listen and communicate more effectively and become more relaxed, present, and persuasive in public through the study of techniques used by actors and directors in the theater. This class will be held on Tuesdays, January 29–March 5, 6:45–9:15 p.m. No prior experience is required. Tuition is $325.

Acting for Business Professionals II builds on the fundamentals of objectives, intentions, and audience analysis to help you hone your public speaking skills. Through weekly coaching sessions you will discover your personal strengths, overcome your negative habits, and learn how to connect to your audience. By delivering a variety of orations, including stories, lessons, monologues, persuasive speeches, and power point presentations, you will build your confidence and learn how to create a powerful presentation. This class will be held Thursdays, January 31–March 7, 6:45–9:15 p.m. Prior experience recommended, but not required (completion of Acting for Business professionals would suffice). Tuition is $325.
